What & Where in '07
January
2007- It was a dark and stormy (raining at least) night at Ryan's
Steakhouse in Paducah, KY where the newly elected (prodded) officers
reined over a nice supper and business meeting. 32 showed up for
this non-camping event but of course the snowbirds are still braving the
balmy Texas climate. John Haley (a Florida native) had to bring up
that Florida was #1 in football and basketball... we tried to ignore it.
We also had a meeting with the rally committee in preparation for our
hosting the 4 State Rally this year.
February
2007- A return to Jackson, TN for their annual RV show... and
a meal at Casey Jones Village Restaurant. The new club jackets
were distributed and tried on.. thanks Frieda for taking care of this.
March
2007- Can you imagine 80 degrees in March? yep, it was at
Piney Campground and we loved it. 11 rigs made the trip plus Dave
& Martha Sue holed up in one of the Cozy Cabins. Ellie McRae
introduced us to "omelet in a bag" for Saturday's breakfast... really
good .. thanks Ellie. Saturday evening supper was enjoyed at the
nearby Paris Landing Lodge where some guests also joined us
April 2007- We invaded Canal Campground near Grand Rivers, KY and
was again blessed with good weather. On Friday some attended a musical
in Grand Rivers but most gathered around the campfire that we built at
the Haley's site (as they were not there to defend against it).
Rungo matches, bike riding & generally goofing off were the main
activities until we gathered at the shelter for a spectacular 'meat on
the grilles' potluck. It was good to welcome Frank Sherman
back.
May 2007– Where? Columbus SP near Columbus, KY and
right on the 'big muddy' river. The weather was fantastic for the
13 rigs plus 4 'Friends of Flt 9'. We leisurely toured the great civil
war relics ( a huge chain, anchor and cannon), the vintage cemetery and
even played some mean Putt Putt golf (Randy & Liale both shot a hole in
one). Rungo and river boat watching rounded out the activities.
June 2007– Diamond Lake Campground near Owensboro, KY ... and it
was pretty hot. Of course that gave some of us a good excuse to
hit the campground swimming pool. We had 9 rigs in attendance and
the activities included (besides swimming) fishing (Chelsea caught a
catfish), biking, biking into the lake (Chelsea again) and best of all
go-cart racing. Speaking of go-carts; on the fast but not to demanding
oval track Liale was viciously and deliberately spun out by Charlie and
Dale easily won his heat do to lack of competition. Now on the demanding
and brutal road course Liale was able to dethrone the previous champ,
Dale, with a brilliant pass with only 2 laps remaining.
July
2007– It's Rally time! Our bi-annual Four State Rally was held
in Sturgis, KY at the Union Co Fairgrounds. The early birds had to
brave the monsoons and flooding but nothing could 'dampen' the RV
spirit. By Friday afternoon the sun was out and we had 31 rigs in
attendance (78 campers in all). Friday activities included a tour of
nearby WWII Camp Breckenridge Museum, a salad potluck, bingo and then a
movie and popcorn. Saturday brought a men's Greasy Hat breakfast &
special tour (a guy thing), the women's Red Hat Society luncheon, kids
crafts, seminars, games galore in the arena and finally a huge supper
followed by great live entertainment. Saturday night we were
treated to the Sturgis annual fireworks display and it was awesome.
Our RV dealer sponsor, Youngblood's RV, brought us Sunday breakfast and
that was followed by worship music and service. Charlie & Marla
McElroy did an awesome job organizing & making this rally a success...
thanks you two!
August 2007–
We're at yet another rally this month... this time the Jafari
International Rally held at the DuQuoin Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Illinois
and boy was it hot! Flight 9 was very well represented with 12
rigs and did I say it was hot? Most of the time was spent in the
A/C'd arena building attending seminars, eating, playing games, eating,
watching entertainment, eating and playing bingo. (Elsie was one
of the winners!). Frieda, Vicki & Charlie got some cool relief by water
skiing and Randy won the Rungo tournament. Next years International will
celebrate Jayco's 40 years being held in Goshen, Indiana... with factory
tours, etc. Can't wait!
September
2007- Henderson, KY or more specifically John James Audubon SP,
hosted 13 of our rigs plus 2 "Friends of Flt 9". Activities
included tagging migrating Monarch butterflies (yep, look it up), RV
baseball (the men ruled) and a tour of a WWII LST which is now stationed
in nearby Evansville. A big campfire was enjoyed on Saturday night
thanks to Dale's purchase of some firewood (how embarrassing for a
camping club to be caught without firewood). Also it was the
camping debut of Dale's (or is it Jan's?) new diesel dually truck... yep
the ole Suburban is history!
October
2007-
Our annual Halloween Invitational campout/chilli potluck was held at
Hillman's Ferry Campground in the Land Between the Lakes, KY. A
great turnout of 17 rigs plus visitor campers Dave & Judy Green and Carl
& Burneda Koenig and tons of grandkids etc. There were the usual
Halloween goings-on; rig decorating, pumpkin carving and costume
contests and an overwhelming amount of food. Charlie turned Wes's
ghost on him and the Borum's had their 1st grandbaby.
November 2007- Only 5 rigs made it to the Nashville, Two
Rivers Campground but we had 2 other couples join us for supper Friday
night. The Wright's were 'grounded' this year due to Dale's 4
by-pass surgery 3 weeks previously. A lot of shopping took place
Saturday and most attended the Saturday night Grand Ole Opry at the
Ryman Auditorium and a few finished up by 'cruising' downtown Nashville.
I heard a rumor that the men prevailed in some hot Pegs-n-Jokers
matches. Sunday's highlight was a great breakfast at Bob Evans.
Oh, the weather was great for a late November event.
December
2007-
Once again we were gathered at the Hinkle's Church for our Christmas
potluck, business meeting and 'Dirty Santa' gift exchange. Once
again we had way too much food. Once again the same officers from last
season were elected (prodded) into another term. Once again we had a
ball giving and then snatching gifts. It was really great to have
Dale and Jan back with us and to witness Bill Ryan getting a cabbage
for his soup. What is that all about? This wraps up our 19th
season. Looking forward to 2008.
End of 2007. What will 2008 bring?
2008
year.... to be continued
