2001 Year Highlights
By Wanda Ray

January 2001 – Jayco Flight #9 met at the KY Dam Lodge. Short business and long eating!!!

February 2001 – A Delicious soup potluck at the Odell Allbrittens. It was reported that Denny & Elsie had bad luck in Texas with their refrigerator, then on the way home some trees got in their way and damaged their trailer--------what luck! The rest of us will be camping soon.

March 2001 – Columbus Belmont State Park, in KY. Some made trips to Youngbloods’, some enjoyed a hike, and others felt the need for a nap! A ham & bean potluck was enjoyed by all. Several of the members attended the Great North American Rally, March 17-23 in Perry, GA. There was just a little bit too much rain, and some participated in a ‘great’ kissing contest. Charles & Marla McElroy joined us. Welcome.

April 2001 – Canal Campground in LBL. 15 of our 18 member units were in attendance. Odell, Deirdre, and Randy made a trip to Youngblood’s for parts and a new camper. Found parts, but no luck on a new camper. Beautiful weekend.

May 2001 – Dogwood Lake in Dunmore, KY was the site for 13 of 18 member units. Odell & Deirdre have sold their camper and are waiting for the new one they bunked with Kyle and Crystal. All kind of rides and activities were available and again the men fixed a breakfast. GOOD.

June 2001 – Cave-in-Rock State Park, IL was June’s meeting place. Some traveled to the Garden of the Gods, some went to the big cave, and others went downtown for Pioneers Day Parade. Several went across the Ohio River on the Ferry and ate at the Magnolia House Restaurant in Marion, KY. George Taylor has made new name signs for all the new members to place on the big Jayco sign.

July 2001 – Rally time again at KY Dam Village State Park. There were 16 of 18 member units and 42 units in total. Youngbloods’ brought several new units to see and they got muddy. Dale and the crew washed them. A prize for the unit traveling the farthest went one from PA – 893 miles. Activities were provided for all ages. Adult winners were, Charlie McElroy, Odell Allbritten, and Jim Borum. Quartet from Immanuel Church in Paducah was our entertainment.

July 30, 2001 – Six members of Flight #9 attended the International Rally in Lebanon, TN. Details of this are in the regular minutes.

August 2001- we were at the Town & Country Campground in Sikeston, MO. 14 of 18 members were present. Guests were Sam & Marguerite Beaman, Curtis & Vera McCallister, Bob & Patsy Snow, and Jim & Donna Young. At 5:00 PM a van picked us up to go the Lambert’s Throwed Rolls Restaurant. Afterward the highlight of the evening was a ‘wasp killin’ which included fire and smoke. (Ask Bill Ryan) Beamans’ joined the club. We attended the Bootheel Rodeo, had good seats and a cool breeze on the top row!!!!

September 2001 – Devils Backbone City Park in Grand Tower, IL. Member attendance was down, but had lots of visitors; Youngs’,Lauderdales’. Herrings’,Snows’, Dawsons’(from Carbondale), who joined later. Lots of different activities, - hiking, biking, quilting, napping, going to the Cape Fair, and the Murphysboro Apple Festival. Several went to Chester to eat at Reid’s Harvest House.

October 2001 – It was Hillman Ferry Halloween Campout again. A total of 103 members and guests present. The usual decorating, carving, and costume contests were well attended. Dennie & Elsie Hinkle have just spent a week in New York City with a disaster relief team through the Southern Baptist Convention (the 911 bombing). Allbrittens and McElroys’ waited for Dale Wright on Sunday morning to be sure he didn’t get his finger hung in the wheel chock again…….he made it.

November 2001 – Two Rivers Campground – Nashville, TN. 9 of 20 member units present. This is the SHOPPING trip of the year. Camping World was first, then the Opryland Hotel and breakfast. On Saturday evening a group went for a walk down Printers’ Alley and to the famous Stockyard for dinner. After walking about a mile, they found out that they could have gotten a Limo or van to pick them up. They were real hungry after the walk….which was good because their “pure Angus Steaks” cost them over $100.00 per couple!!!! They said is was delicious and took the “fast”shuttle back to the campground. Welcome Randy & Vicki Knight (What memories)

December 2001 – It’s back to the Family Life Center in Metropolis for our “eating” meeting. After a wonderful potluck meal, the dates and places for our 2002 campouts were set. After the gift exchange (“dirty Santa”) some went back for another plate of the good food and others were still ‘stuffed’ and left for home. End of 2001
