2002 Year Highlights
By Wanda Ray
January/February 2002 –
Home of Odell & Deirdre Allbritten – for pizza & salad supper. We
received a plaque from Recreational Club Management Staff for our good
articles for the HITCH. We will place it on display at Youngbloods..
March- 2002 – Cold weather didn’t keep us from our trip to
Columbus Belmont State Park, KY. Herrings & Taylors were showing off
their new campers. Thanks to their closed-in pavilion we were able to
visit with each other. We now have 21 member units.
April 2002- Kentucky Dam Village State Park – (just happened to
be the week of the International Quilt Show in Paducah, KY).
May 2002- Diamond Lake, West Louisville, KY was the site for a
joint campout of Flight #9 and Flight #14. Flight #9 men cooked
breakfast for everyone.
June 2002 – Lake Wappapella in MO. Eleven of our 21 member units
were present. There was a bridal luncheon for Meagan Wright. We all
wished God’s blessing on Meagan and Ed Musselman.
July 2002 – Found Flight #9 at Rend Lake – North Sandusky area.
Seems that we always have lots of wonderful visitors. Several members
were having health challenges and it sure is nice to have the prayers of
our club members.
August 2002- Beautiful Current River at Van Buren, MO was the
site for our early Labor Day campout. The Knights’ have a new Jayco
Quest, and the Shermans’ were driving a new truck. Cake & Ice cream
again for the celebration of the Shermans’ 17 wedding anniversary.
Tubing or tubing watching was the activity of the weekend.
September 2002 – Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN.
Eleven members units attended. We spent the day ‘dodging’ the raindrops
as we visited her mansion, childhood home, and a coal mine.
October 2002 – The annual Halloween Campout was held at Hillman
Ferry Campground in LBL with 115 members & guest present. Faye Burden &
Randy Knight are doing well after their surgery.
November 2002 – Two Rivers Campground in Nashville, TN was the
meeting place for the ‘annual shopping spree’. So cold that several had
frozen water hoses on Saturday morning. As usual several went to
Opryland Hotel for breakfast at ‘Rachel’s. It was reported that Jessica
Borum ‘shopped until she dropped’ at Opryland Mills. Snow was falling as
all left home for the last campout of 2002.
December 2002 – Flight #9 met at First Baptist Church Metropolis,
IL for a luncheon and election of officers for 2003. After election of
officers, Jim Borum arrived late and was told that he had been elected
President…….which he wasn’t, but he got really nervous for a few
minutes. Dates for our 2003 campouts were selected.
