| 2000-3 4-Rivers Jayco Flight #9 March 3-5, 2000 Columbus Belmont State Park – Columbus, KY Although this was quite early in the camping season, eight families from our club flushed our campers out and braved the early spring. We had a wonderful week- end with Mother Nature cooperating very nicely.Gene & Faye Burden came in from Florida on Thursday and were joined by Pat & Frank Sherman. Arriving on Friday were Bob & Wanda Ray, Bill & Betty Ryan, John & Cynthia Haley with Johnny, Jim & Mitzi Borum with Jared & Jessica, Dale & Jan Wright, and Kyle & Crystal Allbritten with Jordan & Ryan . Friday was a little windy with rain coming in by sundown. Randy, Mary & Austin Kessel visited with the Ryans Friday night, and Elizabeth Haley visited with the Haleys. Others visited around the fire at the Rays campsite. On Saturday we visited around the fire, and charter member, Wanda Ray, enlightened us with the some of the history of our club. It was hard remembering all the past members, but Dale remembered the name of one that had several stumped, Mr. Tinckham, after he got home on Sunday. After lunch on Saturday we gathered around the fire at the Rays and had our monthly meeting. Jim Borum called our meeting to order at 2:00 PM. The minutes were read from the February meeting and approved with Haley reporting $1,173.26 in our treasury. The club sent flowers to Odell while he was recuperating from minor surgery, and a “thank you” card was read from him. There was no old business, but we did have Rally business. Mitzi checked on murals, which will be suitable for a backdrop for the Rally in Wisconsin. She will go ahead and order one with our club paying the costs of supplies for the Rally to be reimbursed later by International. We discussed our State Rally, which is planned for July 2001. We talked about the registration fee of possibly $65 with the club serving dinner on Friday night, breakfast on Saturday morning and continental breakfast on Sunday morning. Dale was going to prepare flyers with the contact person being Wanda Ray. Dale was going to start checking with Kentucky Dam Village State Park for reservations of the Activity Hall and Campground. Dale will bring a rough draft of our flyer to the next meeting so we can start advertising in the Jafari Hitch. T-shirts will again be available at a price to be determined. It was also discussed of possibly getting an optional golf tournament put together for those interested at the Rally. Under new business Dale brought up the subject of Flight 9 having our own Internet web site with Faye Burden being our Webmaster. We all thought this would be a great thing for our club. It will have the club’s history, newsletters, pictures, future campouts, travels, and other information. Wanda Ray will be putting the history together for Faye. (Website address: http://Jayco9.tripod.com/index/1.htm) We really appreciate Faye and all her hard work on this endeavor. If you have any ideas or suggestions, let Faye know. There was no activities report, and Jim Borum reported that our next camp out would be at Lake Wappapello in Missouri at Redman Creek East April 7 – 9. The price for camping is $14 per night with reservations being made prior to arrival. We have sites 59-69 already reserved with a few others still available. If you don’t have reservations and plan to come, you can make reservations by calling (877) 444-6777 or on the Internet at ReserveUSA.com. If you made reservations, you should have received a confirmation. We will eat out on Saturday night at a local restaurant to be decided at the camp. Dale mentioned that if you plan to go on the camp out over Labor Day at Fall Creek Falls in Tennessee, you should make your reservations soon. The Wrights donated the door prize (a lighted camper yardlight & wood Jayco plaque) which was won by the Haleys. The Burdens will be bringing the door prize for the April camp out which we will all be anxious to win. A motion was made by Crystal to adjourn and seconded by Gene. After our meeting, we enjoyed the juicy oranges that the Burdens brought from Florida. They were so good. Thanks for sharing your “pickings”, Gene and Faye. Saturday night we all gathered at Luke’s Restaurant in Arlington for supper. We had our own room and had a wonderful meal. After we got back to camp, the weather was just right for visiting around Bob Ray’s roaring fire. Sunday morning we had our church service with Wanda’s music and John’s inspiring words about the importance of knowing how to pray Once again, we had a wonderful camp out, and we’re looking forward to many more this year. See you in April. Betty Ryan, Secretary |
