4-Rivers Jayco Flight #9
July Meeting July 21-23, 2000
Canal Campground, Grand Rivers KY

The Flight #9 Jaycos had our July campout at Canal Campground near Grand Rivers KY on Fisherman's Row loop. It's really hard to reserve a campsite in advance, sight unseen, but that's the way it is with the Corps of Engineers. Some of the sites were rather small, but we all managed. We had seven of our member units that were camping: Kyle & Crystal Allbritten with Ryan & Jordan; Jim & Mitzi Borum with Jessica; Eugene & Faye Burden; Dave & Martha Sue Peters with Amy and her friend, Wesley Owen; Bill & Betty Ryan with Aaron, Vicki & Tristyn Allbritten; Frank & Pat Sherman; and Ed & Johnnie Wyatt. John Haley came up for supper and our meeting on Saturday evening. We also had four visiting campers with us for the weekend: Jim & Donna Young from Metropolis; the Burden's friends, Jug & Marilyn Edmiston from Madisonville KY; the Sherman's friend from Flight #13, Helene Biegel, Brookfield IL; and our friends, Roy & Grace DeLuca from Henderson KY. The Young's provided the BBQ for our potluck on Saturday evening, and we really appreciate their thoughtfulness.

The turnout was quite good considering the Wrights, Proffitts, Rays, and Taylors were on their trip out West. The O. Allbrittens and Eleams were leaving early for the International Rally and the Hinkles were in North Carolina for the birth of a new grandson. Their new grandson arrived on July 20, weighing in at 7lb 7oz and was 19 inches long. He has a 4-yr. old big sister, Katy, and his parents are Norman & Elizabeth Hinkle. Congratulations to the Hinkles.

Everyone had arrived by Friday evening. On Saturday several went shopping at the Eddyville Mall near the camp, while others just enjoyed visiting. Kyle brought his new boat, and he and his brother, Aaron, enjoyed some good fishing. Saturday evening, while the Peters went to Patti's for dinner, we took over their large campsite for our potluck and meeting.

After the potluck, Jim Borum called our meeting to order at 7:05 PM. All the visitors were recognized and welcomed. The minutes from the June meeting were read and approved. John Haley reported $809.70 in the treasury. Some still owe for reservations that were made and paid for from the club treasury for Fall Creek Falls over Labor Day weekend, and Jafari will reimburse the club for the decorations for the International Rally.

Under old business we briefly discussed next year's State Rally. There was no new business. There was no report from the Activities Director. Under the Wagonmaster report, Jim Borum reported we would be at John James Audubon State Park, Henderson KY, August 18-20.  This is a State Park (no reservations, only first come first served).  The sites have electric & water for $12 per night. The men will be preparing a pancake breakfast for the women on Saturday morning. The September campout will be at Cave-in-Rock State Park IL, September 22-24.The door prize (a Patti's dinner gift certificate) was won by the Haleys and donated by the Borums. The Eleams will donate the August door prize.  The meeting was adjourned.

The Canal Campground conducted a church service on Sunday morning at 9:30 am
in the amphitheater.  Most of our group headed home, but some had the privilege of staying for a few more days and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Wanda Ray wrote a journal of their trip out West and continuing through the Jayco International Rally in Warrens, Wisconsin (24-days and over 4,900 miles). "Wanda, you did a wonderful job journalizing the trip."  Sounds like they had a wonderful trip. I hope a trip similar to this is planned for year 2002.
See you all at Henderson this weekend.   Betty Ryan,
