| 2000-09 This month we have a pleasant surprise. Dale wrote the newsletter and did a great job as he always did when he was the club secretary. Thanks to Dale for helping me out. Betty 4-Rivers Jayco Flight #9 September Meeting 22-24, 2000 Kentucky Dam Village State Park Gilbertsville, Kentucky Despite the weatherman calling for rain Friday through Sunday and that our original destination had to be changed, Flight 9 was still able to have a good campout for our September outing. Nine Flight 9 families gathered at Kentucky Dam Village State Park for our September campout. We were planning on going to Cave-In-Rock State Park in Illinois but due to construction going on at the campground it was not going to be open. We will have to remember to schedule Cave-In-Rock for a campout next year! Those in attendance were: Jim & Mitzi Borum with daughter Jessica and friends Bethany and Brittany Huffman, Durwood & Rheitta Eleam, Norman & Jean Proffitt, Dale & Jan Wright with Danny & Chelsie Duncan and also Mendy & Meagan Wright, Frank & Pat Sherman, John Haley, Eugene & Faye Burden, Odell & Deirdra Allbritten, and Kyle & Crystal Allbritten with Ryan and Jordan. We also had one visitor Vicki Knight from Herrin, IL. The Burdens were the first to arrive. They arrived about noon on Thursday. Kyle Allbritten arrived late in the evening and spent the night. He went to work on Friday; Crystal and the boys would join him on Friday evening. Kyle announced that they had a NEW JAYCO from Youngblood’s on order! It is not POSSIBLE to try and keep up with this bunch! Odell came about 8:30AM on Friday and went fishing with a friend while he waited for Deirdra to join him after work. The Shermans rolled in about 10 or 11 AM. They found the Flight 9 Rigs that were already set up but nobody around. Kyle was at work, Odell was fishing and Eugene and Faye had gone into Paducah shopping! The Eleams and Proffitts were next to arrive. The Proffits showed up with a NEW JAYCO 5th Wheel! As I said, it is impossible to keep up with this group! Just after noon the Wrights came and then John Haley arrived with his tent. Durwood and Dale supervised John while he erected his Jayco Tent! Jim Borum then arrived, with Mitzi and the girls shortly after. Vicki Knight arrived by herself with her Jayco. Her husband Randy and son Nathan were to join her on Saturday. Since it looked as if it could rain the men helped Durwood erect his shelter to prepare for our fish fry cookout that was planned for Friday evening! The men retrieved 4 tables and put under the canopy and the campfire was started. Eugene even provided his 30-cup coffeepot for the evening! Odell furnished and cooked the fish; Dale had another gas cooker with the Hush Puppies cooking with the help of others. The women cooked lots of other “Vittles” and Dale got 3 crock-pots of dried beans that he requested! Some visitors joined us for supper. Jack and Ann Collins from Madisonville, Ky. who are friends of Eugene and Faye. Bob and Patsy Snow who are previous members of Flight 9 also joined us. We were glad to have both families with us. Supper was “GREAT” ! We were all stuffed! When everything was cleared away it began to sprinkle but only lasted a few minutes. As soon as supper was over Vicki Knight received a phone call from her son Nathan that her husband Randy was in the hospital with chest pains! She left her pop-up and went back to Herrin. We told her that we would take care of her trailer and to let us know his condition and to stay in touch! Friday evening after dark we were just sitting around the campfire and Jim and John said that Bill & Betty Ryan was pulling in the campground. I told them that, no it was not them. I told them that Betty had sent me an e-mail Friday AM saying that they would not be there Friday night. They both insisted that it was their rig that was heading into the camp- ground. Jim and John jump up and go out in the middle of the road and start waving their arms and flagging down Bill & Betty! They just about had me convinced that I was wrong and since there was an empty site next to mine, I got up and turned on my backup lights on my trailer so it would help them back into the site. About that time John and Jim had come back to the campfire and reported that John had even told “Betty”, who by the way was DRIVING this rig, that he was glad to see her and he would help her get into a site and even gave her a couple of pats on the back. Jim was on the passenger side talking to this other lady, he presumed she was “Betty’s” sister and then noticed that they were towing an Eagle 5th Wheel, then they both realized that they didn’t know these people! They said the two women were kindly going along with them through out this whole deal! We ALL GOT A BIG LAUGH out of this. After awhile they did come back by and asked if we could help them park their unit. It was her first time pulling it. We helped them get on a site and un-hooked! Saturday morning about 9:30 AM, Meagan set up her Mary Kay Display and provided Facials for all of our ladies. The men set around watching, to see if it did any good! I won’t say anymore, I could get in trouble here real quick! The ladies did seem to enjoy it. They ALL looked real nice when they were done! At 12 Noon, Odell called our business meeting to order. In the absence of Betty, Dale read the minutes from the August meeting. It was stated in the August minutes that Durwood and Rheitta has the club’s picture albums at each campout for anyone to view. Durwood said that they only have the last couple of year’s pictures with them. The earlier years are at their house, due to storage problems with carrying several large albums with them all the time. John reported that we have $1187.36 and all bills are paid. Wanda Ray will be buying 2 plastic containers with table supplies that she will be turning in a bill for that was voted on at the August meeting. Eugene reported that he is in the process of getting a bacon press for the club also. Odell showed everyone a plaque that the Jafari had sent to Flight 9 for outstanding participation in sending in the newsletters for the Hitch. Our thanks goes to our outstanding secretary Betty Ryan for her hard work in doing this. Odell suggested we give this to Youngblood’s for them to display for us. Under New Business, Dale stated that for any one that is interested that a extra camp-out will be held Friday October 6th through Monday October 9th at Piney Camp- ground in the Land Between The Lakes. He invited anyone that can to come. Under the Wagon Master Report, Jim stated that our next regular monthly campout would be our annual Halloween, Invitational campout. This is traditionally our biggest campout of the year. Everyone try and bring a guest with you, it doesn’t matter what kind of camping unit they have. It will be October 27-29 at Hillman Ferry in Land Between the Lakes. After some discussion, Jim made a motion and seconded by Eugene to try and get some excitement started. The motion was made that the club would give $50.00 for first place for Best Decorated Rig, $35.00 for second place and $15.00 for third place. Motion passed. So now we can all go out to Wal-Mart and spend $75.00 to $100.00 each and try and win $50.00. It should be interesting and a lot of fun! It was also voted on and passed to give Crystal and Mitzi $200.00 to buy prizes for the pumpkin carving and costume contest. Every one is to bring a pumpkin to carve and enter in the contest. They will have several nice prizes to give away, so lets see if we can’t get very creative in our costumes and pumpkin carving! We will have our chili cookout in the pavilion Saturday night, menu is at end of this newsletter, then follow this with trick or treating and costume judging! Kyle & Crystal are to furnish the door prize for this campout. Jim stated that our last scheduled campout of the year is November 10-12 at Natchez Trace State Park in Tennessee. Kyle made a motion and Jan seconded to change this campout to Two Rivers Campground in Nashville, Tennessee. Motion passed. Two Rivers is located on Music Valley Drive next to Camping World off of Briley Parkway. Jim is going to call them and ask if reservations are recommended. After some discussion it was decided that we will go to Opry Land Hotel Saturday morning for breakfast it should be decorated for Christmas, and everyone will be on there own for the Saturday night meal. The new Opry Mills Mall is open now where Opry Land used to be and Kyle stated that the Bass Pro Shop is also located there! We should be able to find something to do that pleases everyone. Odell announced that the Sunday morning worship service is at 9 AM provided by the campground at the amphitheater. John Haley won the door prize that was donated by the Ryan’s. Kyle & Crystal Allbritten will donate the door prize for October. Eugene made a motion to adjourn the meeting second by Durwood. Meeting adjourned at 12:35 PM. I called Vicki Knight at home to check on the condition of Randy. Vicki said the he was in Intensive Care and that they didn’t think that he had a heart attack, but his blood pressure was extremely high at 180 over 121 and they had him on Nitro. A cardiologist from St. Louis was going to come and look at him. She said that her mother or someone would come after her trailer, and I told her we would get it ready for towing and we would keep them in our prayers. Youngblood’s had sent new T-shirts to everyone that was attending this campout for us to wear to their Sale-A-Bration Sale and Cookout. Most of the group went to Mayfield Saturday afternoon to Youngblood’s RV and browsed the campers and enjoyed a delicious meal. Our thanks to the Youngblood’s for the T-shirts and the cookout, we enjoyed it very much! We met the real Bill & Betty Ryan at Youngblood’s along with Bob & Wanda Ray also. Bob & Patsy Snow were also there. We all had a good time, although it was a little on the warm side! Saturday evening we spent sitting around and talking. If you get a chance ask Frank about a battery isolator! I won’t go any further into this or I would have to type another page! Ha Ha! Saturday night about midnight it started raining and lightning! It was good sleeping for most of us, but our thoughts were on John and his tent! Sunday morning John was the first to leave, I understood he didn’t get wet, but his clothes did. I wish he would forget this tent business and get back in that 5th wheel were he belongs! Are you listening John? Most went to the worship service and at the end it started misting rain. Some started hooking up and others started cooking breakfast. All were gone by about 2 PM. We missed everyone that was not with us for this campout, and I especially missed Betty not being there to do this newsletter! She asked me to do it, but after she reads this jumbled up mess, she will not make that mistake again! Ha Looking forward to seeing EVERYONE in October! Sincerely: Dale Wright |
