March 2001 Newsletter
Flight 9 had its March campout on the 9th - 11th at Columbus-Belmont State Park in Kentucky.
Those attending were Odell and Deirdre Allbritten; Eugene Burden; Dave and Martha Sue Peters; Bill and Betty Ryan; Bob and Wanda Ray; George and Mary Taylor; Frank and Pat Sherman; Ed and Johnnie Wyatt; Dale and Jan Wright; visitors Charles and Marla McElroy; Jim and Donna Young. Joining us for the potluck and club meeting on Saturday evening were Jim and Mitzi Borum; John and Cynthia Haley, and Johnny; Dennie and Elsie Hinkle. We were all very happy to have Jim Borum back with us feeling and looking so well!
As everyone was arriving on Friday night, some went out to eat while others ate in. Later we all enjoyed a "pow-wow" around a great campfire.

On Saturday a good fire was kept burning to be enjoyed whenever anyone felt the need. Some made a trip to Youngblood’s in Mayfield, some enjoyed hiking in the park, while others took naps. A wonderful "ham’n bean" potluck was enjoyed that evening by all.

After the potluck, our business meeting was called to order by our president, Bill. He welcomed everyone, especially our guests the McElroys and Youngs. The minutes of the last meeting were read by our secretary, Deirdre. They were approved.

In the wagon master’s report it was suggested that the September campout be held at Grand Tower City Park in Grand Tower, IL. After a discussion, this suggestion was put on hold until Bill could check out the park. Our April campout will be on the 27th - 29th at Canal Campground at Grand Rivers, KY. May will be at Dogwood Lake Campground Funpark at Dunmor, KY on Memorial Day weekend, the 25th - 28th. We will eat out on Saturday night at Shady Cliff Restaurant. June will be on the 22nd - 24th at Cave-in-Rock, IL. Reservations can’t be made.

Treasurer Dennie reported that the club checking account has been moved to Anna State Bank in Anna, IL. He deposited $825.83. Expenses were $16 for checks, and a flower bill. He reported a balance of $774.36. The treasurer’s report was approved.

In unfinished business our July state rally was discussed. Dale asked that we all think about entertainment for the rally. Martha Sue discussed the T-shirts that will be offered. It was decided by a 9 - 1 vote that the date would be added to a design of Martha Sue’s choice. Shirts will only be ordered for those attending the rally who order at the time they make their reservation.

Activities director Pat asked that we let her know our suggestions for games for the rally, and activities for our monthly campouts.

A number of our members attended the Great North American Rally, March 17 - 23, in Perry, GA. They report that a good time was had by all. There was just a little bit too much rain, but good displays, good entertainment, and some of our group participated in a "great" kissing contest while others only watched! "That is all I am going to say about this!" On the way to GA, some of the group enjoyed a side trip to Raccoon Mountain at Chattanooga, TN. If you are interested in a more detailed report written by Dale, ask this secretary for a copy.

It was suggested that the secretary send a card from the club to Barbara Whitehurst, our Florida camping friend, who is having a serious health problem.

In new business, a motion was made and passed to invite Charles and Marla McElroy to join Flight 9. We welcome them! Their information is as follows: Charlie and Marla McElroy 329 Bob Hite Rd. Morganfield, KY 42437 Phone: 270-389-0806 E-mail: cmcelroy@apex.net Charlie b-day: 10-19 Marla b-day: 11-25 Anniv: 12-13

An announcement was made that our Sunday church service would be at 10:00 on Sunday morning in the shelter. Odell would bring the lesson and George would lead the singing.

We were also reminded to "spring forward" as Daylight Savings Time would begin on Sunday. The door prize was won by the "lucky" Borums (and if I remember correctly, Jim did the drawing!!!) and donated by the Hinkles. Next month (April) the door prize will be donated by the Taylors.
A motion was made and passed that the meeting be adjourned. I hope everyone is as thrilled to be camping again as this secretary! See you all at Canal!

Deirdre Allbritten, Secretary
