April 2001 Newsletter
Flight 9 had its April campout on the 27th - 29th at Canal Campground, Grand Rivers, KY with 15 of our 18 member units present. Those attending were Kyle and Crystal Allbritten, Jordan and Ryan; Odell and Deirdre Allbritten; Jim and Mitzi Borum; Eugene and Faye Burden; Durwood and Rheitta Eleam; Dennie and Elsie Hinkle; Randy and Vicki Knight; Charlie and Marla McElroy; Norman and Jean Proffitt; Bill and Betty Ryan; Bob and Wanda Ray; George and Mary Taylor, and Cody; Frank and Pat Sherman; Ed and Johnnie Wyatt; Dale and Jan Wright, Megan, Michele, Cheslea, Daniel; and visitors Raymond and Marilyn Edminson. John Haley and Dave and Martha Sue Peters visited during the weekend. I think I spotted Bob and Mary Lauderdale at the Ray’s campsite playing cards also. We welcome home all of our "Snow birds!"

As units were arriving on Friday night, they were welcomed by a roaring fire kept by our "fire-master" Bob. We all kept busy on a beautiful Saturday! After a morning business meeting, some of the ladies went to a quilt show in Grand Rivers. Kyle had a fishing tournament but didn’t have any luck. Odell, Deirdre, and Randy made a trip to Youngblood’s for parts, and a new camper. They had good luck finding their parts, but no luck on a new camper. But they’re not giving up! Everyone was on their own for supper. I understand that the Iron Kettle in Grand Rivers had a good business.

Bill called our business meeting to order and welcomed all members and guests. The minutes of the March meeting were read by Deirdre, and were approved.

Wagon master’s report: Our May campout will be on Memorial Day weekend, the 25th - 28th at Dogwood Lake Campground Funpark at Dunmore, KY. The men will be cooking breakfast for the ladies on Saturday morning. A list will follow this newsletter. We will eat out on Saturday night at Shady Cliff Restaurant; The Indiana State Rally will be June 1 - 3 at Madison, Indiana. Our June campout will be on the 22nd - 24th at Cave-in-Rock, IL. The 1st camper there can reserve sites for the eleven others that are coming; the July campout will be our 4-Rivers 4-State Rally on July 13 - 15 at KY Dam Village State Park, Gilbertsville, KY; July 30 - August 3 will be the International Rally in Lebanon, TN.; August 9 - 10 - 11 - 12 will find us camping in Sikeston, MO and attending the Jaycee’s Rodeo on Saturday night. The star entertainer will be Ty Herndon. A count was taken on those attending and Bill will be making reservations and buying rodeo tickets ($12) with a check from our treasurer. Contact Dennie for the total you owe the club; in September we will be at Grand Tower, IL on the14th - 16th at the Grand Tower City Park. There will be electric and water at $8 per night; and on October 12 - 14 there will be a Good Sam Rally at Carson Park in Paducah, KY.

Dennie reported a balance of $967.61 in our club account. Wanda requested that complete rally forms be turned in to her - not just the fee turned in to our treasurer.

Our program/activities director Pat led a discussion of activities for our rally and our campouts. A committee met with her to make plans.

Dennie requested that we sell Flight 9 hats. The membership agreed and Wanda is checking on prices, and is going to bring some samples to our next campout, from which we may choose.

In Rally plans, Wanda reported that Shurflow would send a door prize, and that Jenny Lynn, a singer, is sending an info packet for us to review. Several other entertainment ideas were thrown out for discussion. Dale reported that he is going to make some reservations at Patti’s to be used by those of our guests who would like them.

Church service for Sunday was set for 10:00 at Bob and Wanda Ray’s campsite.

The door prize was drawn by "lucky" Jim Borum but won by the Hinkles (Has the Borum "luck" run out or just slowed down? Time will tell!). It was donated by the Taylors. The May door prize will be donated by the Wyatts.

The business meeting was adjourned.

At our Sunday morning service, George lead the singing and Odell brought our lesson. Several began making plans to go home, while others took walks or enjoyed more visiting. Kyle took several on a boat ride. A group went for brunch at the Lodge. After an afternoon nap, the last few campers headed for home and "the real world".

What a perfectly gorgeous, wonderful weekend! I’m ready for another one! See you all at Dogwood Lake!
