| 2001-05 May 2001 Newsletter Flight 9 had its May campout on the 25th - 28th at Dogwood Lake Campground Funpark in Dunmore, KY with 13 of its 18 member families present. Those attending were Kyle and Crystal Allbritten, Jordan and Ryan; Odell and Deirdre Allbritten; Eugene and Faye Burden; Durwood and Rheitta Eleam; Dennie and Elsie Hinkle; Charlie and Marla McElroy; Dave and Martha Sue Peters; Bill and Betty Ryan; Bob and Wanda Ray; George and Mary Taylor; Frank and Pat Sherman; Ed and Johnnie Wyatt; Dale and Jan Wright; and guests Jim and Donna Young. Also attending as guests of the Allbrittens were Jared Allbritten and a shipmate, Bryan. They are in the US Navy and are attending a school in Biloxi, MS. I don’t think any of the club really believed they were with the Allbrittens because they fished every minute of the weekend and no one really saw them! Odell and Deirdre have sold their camper and are waiting for their new Jayco to arrive so they were bunking with Kyle and Crystal and the boys. So did Jared and Bryan! You would have believed they were there if you had been in that crowded 30 ft. Jayco! They all report they made it fine and send a big THANKS to Kyle and Crystal for their hospitality! Some units arrived on Thursday and as units were arriving on Friday night, of course, they were welcomed by a roaring campfire. Saturday morning the men treated the women to a wonderful breakfast. Smells of bacon, sausage, pancakes, and scrambled eggs filled the crisp morning air! WOW! The ladies send a big THANK YOU to the men! Jared and Bryan fished instead of eating! Following breakfast, Bill called our business meeting to order and welcomed all members and guests. The minutes of the April meeting were read by Deirdre, and were approved with one correction - Bob and Patsy Snow were visitors at our April campout. (Sorry Bob and Patsy!) Wagon master’s report: Our June campout will be on the 22nd - 24th at Cave-in-Rock, IL (electric only). It was brought up and discussed that if the club wished to camp any where else instead of Cave-in-Rock, it would be okay with Kyle. He had suggested Cave-in-Rock because he had a fishing tournament there, but his tournament was changed. The club decided to keep the campout at Cave-in-Rock. The 1st camper there can reserve sites for the ten others that are coming . The July campout will be our 4-Rivers 4-State Rally on July 13 - 15 at KY Dam Village State Park, Gilbertsville, KY. July 30 - August 3 will be the International Rally in Lebanon, TN. August 9 - 10 - 11 - 12 will find us camping in Sikeston, MO and attending the Jaycee’s Rodeo on Saturday night. The star entertainer will be Ty Herndon. Contact Dennie if you still owe the club for your tickets. In September we will be at Grand Tower, IL on the14th - 16th at the Grand Tower City Park. There will be electric and water at $8 per night. October 12 - 14 will be a Good Sam Rally at Carson Park in Paducah, KY. It was discussed and approved that Ed would check out camping at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN for next year. Treasurer’s report: Dennie reported a balance of $1298.61 in our club account. Wanda requested that complete rally forms be turned in to her - not just the fee turned in to our treasurer. Program/activities report: Pat led a discussion of activities for our rally with the following decisions made: The games will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Those in charge of games are: Bob - washers; Dale - horse shoes; Jan - wagon driving; Martha Sue - fishing; Rheitta - marshmallow golf. Wanda will print out forms as needed. For the JUNE CAMPOUT, we will be playing WHITE ELEPHANT BINGO. Bring 2 wrapped WHITE ELEPHANT gifts. Old Business: Wanda brought samples of hats from which the membership made the following choices: Wanda will purchase 2 dozen hats at $7 each - 6 navy and beige vented, and 6 navy and beige solid. The navy will have white letters, and the beige will have navy letters. They will be resold to the membership and at our rally for $9. In Rally plans, the following reports and decisions were made: The entertainment will be a gospel quartet at $150 for Saturday evening; Jayco sent a big box of items to be used for door prizes; those bringing wood are the Rays, Taylors, Wrights, and O. Allbrittens; if anyone gets items for the packets, we will need 50 of the item; Dennie is going to check at Youngblood’s for packet items; the membership should come on Wednesday before the rally to stuff packets and mow, and come on Thursday to put up the canopy and to help pull campers from Youngblood’s; Wanda will get name tags; each woman should make 2 desserts for the Saturday evening meal; Martha Sue will purchase T-shirts for $9 to be sold for $11 and $13. Extra shirts will be purchased to be sold at the rally; it was decided that Dale would reserve the big dining room at KY Dam Village for our next rally in July 2003. Church service for Sunday was set for 10:00 at the campfire. The door prize was drawn by Jordan and won by the McElroys. It was donated by the Wyatts. The June door prize will be donated by the Proffitts. At the June campout, we can eat at the restaurant at Cave-in-Rock. A count will be taken on Saturday and reservations made. The business meeting was adjourned. The remainder of Saturday was spent playing Dominions or Canasta, on walks, and swimming and sunbathing at the beach. At 5:30 a group went to Shady Cliff Restaurant for supper. Jared and Bryan pulled up to the dock, but only Bryan joined us for supper - Jared kept fishing! Deirdre reports that even as a boy he would rather fish than eat! On Sunday, Odell led our services. Thanks, Odell! Jared and Bryan went fishin’ early! They left for Biloxi about 1:00 p.m. Come back and camp with us guys - maybe next time we will see you! Donna and Deirdre left soon after church to go Junkin’. They found a wonderful flea market and each found a "steal"! They were thrilled! Several joined a miniature golf course tournament at the Coal Mine Miniature Golf Course. Winner of the tournament was Dale Wright shooting a 51. Congratulations! Later in the afternoon, two of our most gorgeous "hunks" competed in a "Muscle-man" contest. In the under 6 age group, Ryan came in first! And in the 7 - 12 age group, Jordan came in second! Congratulations "Muscle-men"! Some enjoyed lunch at the Dogwood Cafe in the park. Several men "went a-missing" during the day. They could be found in Jim’s camper watching the big race. Wonder who won? Late in the afternoon several departed for home to go to work, do some Mom-sitting, and some lawn mowing (on a Goldwing!?!?). On Monday the rest of the campers began pulling out. The Allbrittens were the last to leave. Jordan and Ryan had some more swimming to do and rides to ride. Ryan ran into a problem on the rides - he needs to grow a little to be able to ride some of them! It’s Wheaties and spinach for you, Ryan! You’ll be able to ride them next year! It was another great campout with good friends! See you all in June. Deirdre Allbritten, Secretary |
