4-Rivers Jayco Flight #9
June Campout – June 22-24, 2001
Cave-In-Rock State Park, Cave-In-Rock IL
Cave-in-Rock State Park on the Ohio River was the site for Flight 9’s June campout. The weather was great all weekend, and I believe everyone had a really good time. Those in attendance were Bob & Wanda Ray, Pat & Frank Sherman, George & Mary Taylor with their grandson, Cody, Bill & Betty Ryan, Randy & Vicki Knight, Eugene & Faye Burden with their great great niece, Bethany, and Bob & Mary Lauderdale. John Haley came on Saturday afternoon and went out to supper with us. Also visiting were Randy’s parents, Lonnie & Joy Knight and Vicki’s mother, Saundra Brookshire and niece and nephew, Olivia and Nicholas. The Rays went out for breakfast on Saturday morning with friends who were visiting. We missed all or you who were not here.

By Friday evening we had all arrived and got our campsites set up. Some ate at the Lodge while others ate at “home”. Bob Lauderdale grilled some of his famous bologna, which was very good. Some of the group traveled over to the Garden of the Gods for some sightseeing. We all gathered at the Taylor’s site for the campfire and visiting. Saturday some of us went to the cave and downtown for the Carnival and Pioneers Day Parade. Cody & Bethany got enough candy from the parade to last at least for the afternoon. Saturday evening several of us rode across the Ohio River on the Ferry and ate at the Magnolia House Restaurant at Marion KY for supper. When we got back we had our meeting and played bingo. Everyone brought wrapped “white elephant” gifts for the prizes.

Bill called our June meeting to order at 7:25pm and welcomed all our guests. The minutes were read from the May meeting and approved. There was no treasurer’s report and no old business. Under new business it was discussed having our campout in May 2002 (Memorial Day weekend) with Flight 14 at Diamond Lake Resort near Owensboro KY. Some of the Flight 14 members will be at our Rally and we will firm up the plans at that time. George reported that he had made signs for all the new members to hang on our large Jayco sign at each campout. He also thought that maybe a fine should be imposed on anyone who forgot to take their name sign off the board when they go home from each campout. I think he was only kidding though. We really want to thank George for all the time and effort it takes to make these signs for us. The Jayco sign really looked GREAT with all the names hanging on it. Wanda reported that she has the Flight 9 caps ready for sale at the Rally. Pat made a really neat sign for the games at the Rally, and she has all the Rally games ready. Wagonmaster Gene reported that our next campout would be the Rally at Kentucky Dam Village State Park, July 13-15. The door prize was won by the Taylors and donated by the Proffitts. The Rays will donate the July door prize. The meeting was adjourned.

After the meeting we played bingo at the Taylor’s campsite until it was too dark to see our numbers. Thanks to Wanda for being the “caller”. We all sat around the fire and visited. Sunday morning several of us had to leave early and get ready for another week of work. You can tell who is retired, because they get to stay longer. We really had a nice weekend. See you at our Rally. Ladies, don’t forget to prepare two “finger food” desserts for the Rally dinner on Friday night.
