| 2001-07 4-Rivers JAYCO Club - Flight 9 July 2001 Newsletter Flight 9 began its July campout on the 13th - 15th at Kentucky Dam Village State Park hosting their 2001 Rally. 16 of its 18 member families camped with 1 family visiting. Those member families attending were Odell and Deirdre Allbritten; Jim and Mitzi Borum, Jared and Jessica; Eugene and Faye Burden; Durwood and Rheitta Eleam; John and Cynthia Haley, Johnny and Elizabeth; Dennie and Elsie Hinkle; Randy and Vicki Knight; Charlie and Marla McElroy; Norman and Jean Proffitt; Dave and Martha Sue Peters; Bill and Betty Ryan; Bob and Wanda Ray; George and Mary Taylor; Frank and Pat Sherman; Ed and Johnnie Wyatt; and Dale and Jan Wright. The Youngbloods visited over the weekend. “Friends of Flight 9” attending were Bob and Mary Lauderdale; Bob and Patsy Snow, and grandson Tyler; Rex and Barbara Whitehurst; and Jim and Donna Young. Friends and family who visited over the weekend were: Burden’s niece and nephew, and great nieces; Eleam’s daughter and granddaughter; Hinkle’s grandchildren; Knight’s son and a friend, and Randy’s parents; Ryan’s children and grandchildren; Ray’s children and grandchildren; Wright’s children and grandchildren, and Jan’s dad. About 15 member and guest units arrived on Wednesday. On Thursday, 32 units had arrived. Flight 9 began setting up tents, stuffing registration bags, and pulling new units from Youngblood’s RV Center in Mayfield. Due to some rain, all the new units got muddy. But our “tidy” Flight 9 guys took care of that. They lined them all up behind Dale and Jan’s camper and washed them! They wanted the “bathing beauties” of Flight 9 to help them, but they didn’t have any takers. Pat Sherman had to make an emergency room run for an infected ear. We hope she is completely recovered. On Friday, Jim and Donna slaved over a hot cooker all day cooking chicken. We send a great big THANK YOU to them! After Jim Borum asked God’s blessing on the food, supper was served by Flight 9 to 41 registered rigs at 7:00 p.m. Chicken, baked beans, slaw, and wonderful desserts made by our ladies were enjoyed by all. After supper, MC Dale, president Bill, and loud speaker holder Dave (the “dream team”) held drawings for prizes. Everything from patio lights, to an artificial grass patio, to chairs, to shirts was given away. A special prize was given to Marie and Don Swanson of Brwyn, PA for coming the farthest - 893 miles! A campfire was enjoyed later in the evening. After a late arrival had registered, we had a total of 42 rigs in attendance. Saturday activities began at 8:00 a.m. with Odell offering a prayer of thanksgiving for the delicious breakfast furnished by Flight 9 at the Convention Center. After breakfast, more drawings were conducted by the “dream team”. Everyone was a winner! Later there was a scrapbooking seminar held by Vicki Knight; 8 new units from Youngblood’s RV to tour; a product seminar held by Roger Youngblood of Youngblood’s RV, and Mike Houghtby, Youngblood’s service manager; blood pressure checks given by Cynthia Haley (“Nurse Goodbody”); and games conducted by Pat Sherman and her crew. Adult winners were: Charlie McElroy - 1st; Odell Allbritten - 2nd; Jim Borum - 3rd. Way to go Flight 9! And all the children ages 1 - 18 were winners! Everyone was invited to partake of a leftover/potluck supper at 5:00 p.m. Others went out to eat at Patti’s, Iron Kettle, McDonalds, and other area restaurants. Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Immanuel Quartet from Immanuel Baptist Church in Paducah, KY. Another great campfire was enjoyed later in the evening. Due to a mix-up at the campground, there was not a Sunday morning service so Wanda Ray led a group in singing. Later the new units were pulled back to Youngblood’s, the tents were taken down, and the clean up begun. After lunch and following our guests departure, Bill called our business meeting to order and welcomed everyone. The minutes of the June meeting were read and approved. October 12 - 14 will be a Good Sam Rally at Carson Park in Paducah, KY. This secretary has application forms for this Rally. We are planning a campout with Flight 14 on May 24 - 27, 2002 (Memorial Day weekend) at Diamond Lake. Flight 9 has 13 planning to attend, and Flight 14 has 9. Treasurer’s report: Dennie reported a balance of $834.84 in our club account with some outstanding money to be paid in. Program/activities report: A big THANKS to Pat and her crew for all their work on the Rally games! Old Business: A discussion on the Rally was held. The following ideas for future Rallies were discussed: _The need for a message board to be updated throughout the weekend. _Camp host to welcome and direct guest campers as they arrive. _Wanda reported that the procedure for selling the t-shirts worked good. _The registration bags could be prepared at our last campout before the Rally so that they could be given to guest campers on the day/time of their arrival. _Ask that guests send in their camper problems before their arrival so Youngblood’s could have the appropriate technician available at the product seminar. All members of Flight 9 send a great big THANK YOU to Dale Wright for a great job as Rally coordinator, and to Wanda Ray for an outstanding job as Rally secretary! This secretary will send a thank you note to several non-club members who helped the club with the Rally. Other unfinished business that was discussed: _A need for a message board at all campouts. _Inviting other campers to attend our church service. _Making/buying aprons for our Flight. _The possibility of 2-3 prospective new members. _The Knights are checking on the cost of Bingo cards. _The flower fund is the main depletion of our account. Do we want to pass the hat for this fund? Dennie reported that we have spent $35 on flowers so far this year. _The question was raised and discussed that we might want to give new members a Flight 9 hat. The business meeting was adjourned. The door prize was drawn by Chelsea and won by the Hinkles. It was donated by the Rays. The August door prize will be donated by the Wrights. We enjoyed home-made ice cream after our meeting and then began to depart for home. It was another super Rally and a great campout with good friends! See you all in August. Don’t forget your boots and cowboy hats! Deirdre Allbritten, Secretary |
