| 2001-11 November 2001 Newsletter Flight 9 had its November campout on the 9th - 11th at Two Rivers Campground in Nashville, TN with 9 of its 20 member families present, and one joining us for breakfast. Those attending were Kyle and Crystal Allbritten, Jordan and Ryan; Odell and Deirdre Allbritten; Eugene and Faye Burden, and Eugene?s brother, Earl and Barbara Burden; Judy and Steve Dawson; Durwood and Rheitta Eleam, with Susan and Audrey Thompson; Dennie and Elsie Hinkle; Randy and Vicki Knight; Bill and Betty Ryan; Ed and Johnnie Wyatt joined us for breakfast on Saturday; and Dale and Jan Wright. Four units arrived earlier in the day on Friday, four units traveled down together arriving in the early evening, and one unit arrived later in the evening. We all went to bed early to get an early start on our shopping on Saturday. Saturday began with an 8:00 visit to Camping World where we bought everything from toilet paper to a real bargain on power jacks! Next we met at the Opryland Hotel and enjoyed a buffet breakfast at the Cascades Restaurant. Following breakfast we had a short business meeting in a hallway sitting area of the hotel. Bill called the meeting to order, and the minutes were approved as read on the Internet. There was no Wagon Master?s report. Our treasurer reported that all debts for the Halloween party have been paid - including what was owed to the "witch". The bank balance remains about the same as last reported. There was no old business. In new business it was decided that our Christmas get-together would be on December 29 at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Metropolis. We can begin arriving at 11:00 a.m. with the potluck meal being served at 12 noon. Please bring a meat, vegetable, salad, and dessert. Plates, cups, silverware, ice, coffee, and tea will be provided. Each man should bring a $10 gift for a man, and each woman should bring a $10 gift for a woman. We will play a rousing round of "dirty Santa"! Odell and Deirdre have invited the club to their home for a get-together in January 2002. This will be discussed and plans made at the December meeting. The door prize was drawn by the prettiest girl at the meeting, Audrey Thompson, and won by the Hinkles. It was donated by the O. Allbrittens. Everyone was on their own for Sunday morning services. A motion was made and passed to adjourn the business meeting. The rest of the day on Saturday was spent shopping, visiting local motorcycle shops, shopping, golfing, and shopping! Saturday evening a group went to walk down Printer?s Alley, and then to the famous Stockyard for dinner. After about a mile hike to the restaurant, they found out they could have gotten a limo or van to pick them up. But they were real hungry after their walk! It?s a good thing because their pure Angus steaks cost them over $100 per couple!! They reported that it was delicious and worth every dollar! They took advantage of the free shuttle back to their cars, and I understand it was a fast trip! On Sunday some attended worship services, others finished up shopping, and then we all headed home. The Allbrittens worshipped at the Madison Church of Christ, where they were part of a very touching tribute to our veterans. Along with all the veterans present, Odell, Kyle, and Crystal received American flag lapel pins. We of Flight 9 say "Thanks" to all who served and are serving in our military to keep our country free! This secretary requests that all members who wish to have the Flight 9 newsletter mailed to them monthly, please bring 12 self-addressed, stamped envelopes to the December meeting. It was a great weekend! See you all in December. Deirdre Allbritten, Secretary |
