| 2002-07 July 2002 Newsletter July 19 - 21 found Flight #9 camping on beautiful Rend Lake in the North Sandusky area. Ten of our twenty-one member units were present with several visitors. Those attending were Odell and Deirdre Allbritten; Jim and Mitzi Borum; Eugene and Faye Burden; Steve and Judy Dawson with granddaughter Danielle; Kenny and Ann Herring with their son David and his friend Kayla Turner; Randy and Vicki Knight; Charlie and Marla McElroy with Marla's sister Lisa Gray and her friend Jessica Daniels; Bill and Betty Ryan; Frank and Pat Sherman; and Dale and Jan Wright with Michele and Chelsea, and Tate. Visiting were Don and Dot Eisenga; Jim and Carol Ablett; Dan Jones; Harvey Smith and Maureen Tate; and Brian, Monica, and Justin Butts. On Friday and Saturday evening we had as guests Mary and Carl McCann from Christopher, IL. They found us through our website. We hope our "travelers" are having a ball! Durwood called Dale twice this weekend to rub it in! It was a beautiful weekend, but it was too hot! We didn't let that stop us - we got out our fans and moved that hot air around! We enjoyed scenic drives, fishing, walking, biking, swimming, and a few went into town. Faye was available under her camper awning to give lessons on how to be lazy. She didn't have any customers because we all knew how! On Saturday evening we all enjoyed grilled hamburgers and a great potluck, followed by home-made ice cream. Yum-yum! At next months campout, everyone will be on their own for meals. After the potluck, Bill called our meeting to order and welcomed our guests. The minutes were approved as read by Deirdre after one correction was made. Meagan is marrying Ed Musselman not Dan! We wish them years of happiness! In old business, our July 27 - 28, 2003 Rally was discussed. Rally Chairman, Odell, reported that reservations for breakfast on Saturday morning, June 28 have been made. After a motion was made, seconded, and approved, Ann Herring was appointed Rally Secretary. Thanks Ann! Some discussion was held on meals, cost of Rally, and entertainment. Everyone should be thinking about these topics because we want to have decisions made by our September campout so that advertisement of the Rally can begin. There was no new business. Substitute treasurer, Deirdre, reported $598.00 in our account. She reported that one unit still owes yearly dues. Under the wagonmasters report, Eugene reported that those having reservations for Labor Day (Aug. 30 - Sept. 1) are all paid. Those having reservations to Loretta Lynn's Family Campground on Sept. 13 - 15 owe $22.00 to the club. You may pay Deirdre at anytime. Eugene says that at Loretta Lynn's they only have 50 amp service so you must have a reducer. Reservations need to be made for the November campout in Nashville. Everyone should be deciding if they plan to go because Eugene will be making the reservations soon. Some of our group will be going to the International Rally in Kitchener, Ontario Canada on July 29 - August 2. Have a good time and be careful! Our next campout will be August 30 - September 1 at Current River, MO. Pat, program/activities director, reports that we will not have any special activities at our next campout. We will all be enjoying "water activities" at Current River! Deirdre read a thank you note from the Kyanna Birds, Flight #9 thanking us for our hospitality at the Diamond Lake campout. Word has been received that one of their members who attended that campout, Bob Burnes, has died. A sympathy card from Flight #9 has been sent to the Kyanna Birds. Also, we want to remember several of our members who are having health problems. As of this writing, Norman has been moved to progressive care and is doing better. Randy had a heart cath, and he had two blockages which were fixed with stints. He is doing fine. Faye is due to have tests to see if she can have surgery to restore some of her hearing. Dale will have a skin malignancy removed on August 13. Be sure to keep all of these in your prayers. The Herrings have a new e-mail address - herrings@hcis.net The door prize was donated by the McElroys, drawn by Danielle, and won by the Burdens. The door prize next month will be donated by the Peters. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to adjourn the meeting. After the meeting, "white elephant" bingo was enjoyed! Some people are lucky, and some people are not! On Sunday morning, Jimmy and Odell lead us in a worship service. Another potluck of "left-overs" was enjoyed by several at noon. Then the sad task of going back to the real world was started! It was a great campout! Hope to see you all at Current River! Deirdre Allbritten, Secretary |
