| 2002-09 September Newsletter Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN was the sight of Flight #9's September campout on the 13 - 15. Eleven of our twenty-one member units were present, and for the first time in a long time, we had no visitors. Attending were Odell and Deirdre Allbritten; Steve and Judy Dawson; Durwood and Rheitta Eleam; Kenny and Ann Herring; Dennie and Elsie Hinkle; Dave and Martha Sue Peters; Bob and Wanda Ray; Bill and Betty Ryan; Frank and Pat Sherman; George and Mary Taylor; and Ed and Johnnie Wyatt. On Friday night, several went out to eat supper and then went to the pavilion to listen to some good country music. On Saturday morning despite rain showers, the men cooked a delicious breakfast of sausage, bacon, and pancakes for the ladies. Good job guys! After breakfast, we decided to hold our business meeting. President Bill called our meeting to order. The minutes of our last meeting were approved as read by Deirdre. Acting treasurer Deirdre reported a balance of $703.04. She reported that there are two outstanding bills to be paid, and three who owe fees. The 50/50 raffle was held with $15.50 going to the Rally Fund. Our next campout will be our annual Halloween invitational at Hillman Ferry in the Land Between the Lakes on October 11 - 13. It was decided that we would add a cake decorating contest and a cakewalk to the other events. At the end of this newsletter, you will find a menu and assignment list. The only new business was an advertisement from a Michigan campground that was shared with the members. In old business, our 2003 rally was discussed. Some possible complications were discussed. The following is a list of jobs and volunteers: Rally president Odell will see to the meals and entertainment; rally secretary Ann, with the help of Wanda, will take care of the reservations; Pat and Vicki will run the games and activities ($200 budget); Betty will plan the "goody" bags (brochures of information, etc.); advertisement will be handled by Deirdre (Flier, invitations to a factory representative and Ray and Donna, and request door prizes from the factory.); parking will be handled by Frank, Durwood, Bob, and all others who are available; Martha Sue will take care of the t-shirts; and Wanda will take care of hats. All those available will haul campers for Youngblood's. Roger will try to attend the Rally and will furnish one morning's breakfast and some door prizes. The door prize was drawn by Mary, won by the Peters, and donated by the Ryans. Next month the door prize will be donated by the Hinkles. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn the meeting. The rest of the day was spent in avoiding raindrops as we visited Miss Loretta's mansion, a replica of her childhood home and a coalmine, and shopping in the little town of Hurricane Mills. Because of the threatening rain, we voted not to have our scheduled Italian supper but to go out to eat. Several spent another evening listening to good blue grass and old style country music. A campfire was also enjoyed. Several had to leave early on Sunday morning, so we did not have a church service. A few did a little more sightseeing on Sunday afternoon. Hope to see you all in October! Deirdre Allbritten, Secretary |
