2002-11

November 2002 Newsletter
Our November campout was held the 22nd - 24th at Two Rivers Campground in
Nashville TN. The weather was cold on Friday when we got there, but by
Saturday afternoon the sun was shining and it was fairly warm. I think most
of us who were hooked up to water, woke up Saturday morning to no water, as
it was frozen in the hose! It thawed out pretty quick so we were okay.

Those in attendance were the Wrights, Eleams with Susan and Audrey, Ryans,
Borums with Jessica, Burdens, Hinkles, Knights with Randy's mother, Joy,
Shermans, and friends Don & Dot Eisenga. The Burdens had been in Nashville
all week as Faye had a couple appointments with her audio doctor. She is
doing remarkably well and learning to hear more and more-Gene is going to
have to watch what he says around her now!! The Borums had an afternoon
appointment at Camping World for some repairs, and finally got set up around
dark.

On Friday evening we all picked different things to do. Some went next door
to the Cock of the Walk for supper, while some took in the Rockettes show at
the Opry House, which was reportedly very good.

Saturday morning we did our usual Nashville breakfast at the Opryland Hotel.
For a change, we ate at Rachel's Breakfast Buffet this year, which proved to
be delicious. We were joined at breakfast by some Jayco friends that we
have only seen at the Jayco Rallies, Dusty and Carolyn Rhoads from
Hendersonville TN. They have been members of the International, but do not
belong to any Flight. They are very nice folks, and we enjoyed having them
join us.

After breakfast we gathered at the "Pickin' Parlor" just outside the
restaurant for our club meeting. The minutes from the last meeting were not
read, since we didn't have them with us (I didn't come very well prepared,
did I?). Dennie reported that after everyone pays the club for their
camping, the club would have a little over $700 in the treasury. No 50/50
drawing was held. Gene reported that our Christmas party would be held
Saturday, December 7, at the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church
at 6th and Girard Street in Metropolis. We will begin gathering at 11:00
a.m. with the potluck meal being served at 12 noon. Please bring a meat,
vegetable or salad, and dessert. Plates, cups, silverware, ice, coffee, and
tea will be provided. Each person is to bring a gift (around $10) to be
exchanged during our famous "dirty Santa" game. With no other business to
discuss, the meeting was adjourned.

The door prize was drawn by Durwood and won by the Hinkles. The Shermans
donated the door prize.

At the December meeting we will elect new club officers and plan our
campouts for 2003. Think about whom you would like for officers (or if we
have any volunteers), and also places and dates you would like for campouts
next year.

The rest of Saturday was spent touring the Opryland Hotel, shopping at Opry
Mills, taking in the huge Nashville Flea Market at the State Fair Grounds,
and of course shopping as Camping World. Saturday night some of us went to
the Grand Ole Opry down at the old Rhyman Auditorium, some ate at the
Stockade Restaurant, while others just drove around and looked at all the
beautiful Christmas lights. It was reported that Jessica "shopped 'til she
almost dropped" at Opry Mills for her birthday.

Sunday was such a beautiful and warm day. It seems that the last day is
always the best weather-wise, but we all had to pack up and head home. This
was our last trip for the year, but the "snow birds" will all be heading
South soon. We wish them all a safe trip and wonderful winter.

It doesn't seem possible that another camping season is over. This campout
brought back memories for me, as it was five years ago this campout that
Bill and I went camping with this club for the first time, and it was also
in Nashville. At that time I wasn't quite sure what kind of club this was,
because when we left Metropolis at 5pm, it was very cold and spitting snow!
I seriously thought that the campout would be cancelled, but I have found
out since that this club camps in hot, cold, rain, or whatever! It has been
a fun five years, and we have developed some wonderful friendships. Flight
9 is a great camping club.

See you all at the party on Saturday.
