4-Rivers Jayco, Flight 9

March 2003 Newsletter

The 4-Rivers Jayco Club – Flight 9 had its first campout of 2003.   We met at Natchez Trace State Park in Tennessee on March 14-16.  The following members were in attendance Odell & Deirdre Allbritten, Steve & Judy Dawson, Dennie & Elsie Hinkle, John Haley, Randy & Vicki Knight, Charlie & Marla McElroy, Dave & Martha Sue Peters, Bob & Wanda Ray,  Dale & Jan Wright, and Ed & Jonnie Wyatt.  Friends who joined us were Eugene & Faye Burden, Don & Dot Eizenga.  Dale & Jan seemed to have some trouble finding the campground.  They apparently went where no other “trailer” has gone before.  What’s a campout without some excitement?  I think Jan would have liked to have missed that ride.  Cynthia & Johnnie came to join John in a cabin on Saturday night.

Friday evening we all enjoyed a roaring campfire at the Peter’s trailer.  It was windy early on, but as the evening advanced, it became still.  Eugene & Faye were camping in their new RV.  They gladly gave tours all weekend.  Congratulations to the Burdens.  Saturday proved to be even better than Friday.  Several people went into town, Wal-Mart is always a must.  Others took a drive, and some visited Shiloh, a Civil War Battlefield.  Several spent the afternoon enjoying the sunshine and visiting with each other.

Saturday evening we all enjoyed a buffet dinner at the Lodge.  The food and fellowship were just what we all needed.  After dinner we had our monthly meeting.  Dale called the meeting to order.  The minutes were read and accepted as read.  Steve gave a treasurers report.  Balance was $259.34, he collected $129.01 for the May campout deposits for a balance of $388.35.

There was LOTS OF DISCUSSION on everything we discussed.  Randy brought up about the 50/50.  It was decided to continue the drawing.  We will sell tickets before the meeting starts and draw after the business meeting is over.  There was also lots of discussion about sending flowers, especially since we are having a cash flow problem.  We finally decided to asses each family $10.00 to build the treasury up.  Please give your $10 to Steve in an envelope with your name on it.  Dave suggested that instead of sending the men flowers, we send them a new tool!!  Under rally business, hats will cost $10.00, our Saturday evening entertainment will be the Cope Brothers Bluegrass Band from Paducah, KY.  Odell said if you wanted to spend an extra night, the cost will be $14.40 per night.  T-shirts are $12.00 for sizes up to large, XL and up will cost $14.00.  Pat Snow’s group will perform Friday night for free.  The club will provide dessert and chips for Friday night.  The menu will be pork, chicken, slaw, and baked beans.  Pat & Vicki will do games again this year.  If you were in charge of a game last rally, we are counting on you to do it again this year unless you talk with Pat or Vicki.  Jan suggested we add horse racing to our games, sounds like a good idea. I can’t wait, it sounds like it’s going to more fun than 2001!!!  Faye said she has changed the pictures on our web site from a zip file to an exe. File.  This will make them easier to open.  We thank Faye for all her hard work on the web site.  She does an excellent job!!! Thanks Faye!!!

Our next campout is April 25-27 at Canal Campground at Grand Rivers, KY.  If you don’t have eservations, please hurry.  That is the quilt show weekend.  The May campout is at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis, across from the Arch.  The June campout will be at the Kentucky Dam State Park, this is our rally.  Sign up now and avoid the rush!!!!  July is open.  After much discussion, it was discovered that most people already have plans and weren’t planning on attending.  It was decided we would talk about it again in April.  Maybe we can have an extra campout the end of July.

Randy was in charge of the 50/50 drawing, he collected $42.00 and Elsie won $21.00.  Congratulations Elsie!!!  The door prize was won by the Dawson’s.  That’s 2 times in a row.  What luck!

After dinner we all enjoyed another campfire.  Everyone sat around until about 10:30 and caught up on the winter happenings.  Dave somehow became the King of the picnic table!!  Ask him !!  On Sunday, Odell lead us in song and worship.  It was a beautiful day.  We hated to pack up and head home, but some of us had to go back to work.  Several people stayed till Monday.  If you missed this campout, you missed a good time.  See you in April
