July 2003 Newsletter

July can be rather hot, but this was a wonderful weekend.  Warm during the day and comfortable in the evenings.  The following members gathered at Piney Campground in Land Between the Lakes near Paris, TN.:  Steve & Judy Dawson, Durwood & Rheitta Eleam, John & Cynthia Haley with Johnny, Randy & Vicki Knight, Dave & Martha Sue Peters, Norman & Jean Proffitt , Bob & Wanda Ray,  Frank & Pat Sherman, George & Mary Taylor, Jan Wright with Chelsea, Ed & Johnnie Wyatt with Daughter & Son-in Law James & Teresa Bensen and Granddaughter Kala Keaton.  Also visiting were Bob & Mary Lauderdale, Eugene & Faye Burden, Robert & Deborah Heisel, & Charles & Ellen Rice.

There was no meeting this month.  (Not enough officers were present).  The Taylor’s furnished the Door Prize and the Ray’s won.

Some of our Crew arrived as early as Tuesday and had a wonderful week.  By Friday evening everyone had arrived.  Saturday brought everyone going in different directions.  Several visited Fort Donnellson in nearby Dover, TN.  It was very informative.  Dave and Martha Sue’s friends lent them a Pontoon boat for the weekend.  I kept getting different versions of the story, but I think you should ask John Haley about his “swimming” experience.  I think he won the belly flop competition or maybe it was the breast stroke in very shallow water?  See what you can find out.  It seems there were lots of witnesses, but different opinions of what happened.

Saturday evening we all enjoyed a steak dinner at Cherokee Hills Steak House.  We had a large group for dinner and then everyone joined George & Mary for a roaring campfire.  Most people started heading out on Sunday.  A few remained until Monday.  I think everyone had a good time!
