Rivers Jayco, Flight 9 April 2004 Newsletter
Flight 9 held it’s April campout at Columbus-Belmont State Park in Kentucky. Those in attendance were Steve & Judy Dawson, John & Cynthia Haley, Randy & Vicki Knight with neice Saundra Marie Winn, Dave & Martha Sue Peters, Bob & Wanda Ray, Bill & Betty Ryan with Grandchildren Austin & Ryanne, George & Mary Taylor, & Dale & Jan Wright. Guests joining us were Don & Dot Eizenga, & Mark & Sue Thompson (friends of the Peter’s).
The Peters arrived on Thursday evening and on Friday morning moved to a coveted spot over looking the river. It did take Martha Sue several attempts to get Dave to wake up and get moving on Friday morning. It seems that the Haley’s arrived with a new camper in tow. Bigger and Better, a Jay Feather (similar to a Kiwi) with a slide out. The rest of the gang scattered in all day Friday with Dale & Jan being the last to arrive on Friday. We all enjoyed 2 campfires (at the same time) at the Peter’s campsite. The wind had died down and the fire was wonderful. Not to mention the tales!
Saturday was a beautiful day, warm and sunny. It was a perfect day to tour the State Park and the museum. All the Redbuds and Dogwoods were in bloom. We had to leave Saturday afternoon due to prior commitments. The Club enjoyed dinner at Grogan’s. After dinner a campfire was once again enjoyed by all.
John lead the morning worship service.
On Saturday morning a Jayco Class C Motorhome pulled in next to the Ryan’s. Wanda went over and introduced herself. Randy and I took them some Flight 9 information and they were ready to join us. Hopefully we will have them camp again with us. Their names are Mike and Melinda Ford. They do competitation Bar-B-Que!

Here are directions for Giant City State Park. Coming from the South, Exit I-57 at exit #45 the Herrin exit. At end of exit ramp take a Right and go about 2-5 miles. Take a LEFT turn at the Devil Kitchen’s & Little Grassy Lake sign. Go until the road makes a “Y” and take a LEFT. Go until you must turn right or left and turn LEFT. Go until you see signs for the campground. Proably 2-4 miles. You will be making a LEFT turn the campground is back this road (at the end of the road). You can go all the way into Carbondale and turn Left at the Wal-Mart stop light, but this is a hilly road with heavy traffic. Carbondale is about 8 miles from the campground. If you need help call me at 521-5467.
From the North get off I-57 at the Carbondale exit and head west on IL 13 until you get to the Wal-Mart stop light and turn LEFT. To avoid heavy traffic you can turn LEFT at the Airport-HWY 148 stoplight and go until the Devil Kitchen & Little Grassy Lake sign, you will be making a RIGHT turn, Go until the road makes a “Y” and take a LEFT. Go until you must turn right or left and turn LEFT. Go until you see signs for the campground. Proably 2-4 miles.
