4 Rivers Jayco June 2005 Newsletter

Since Liale & I did not attend the Sedalia International Rally Elsie & Betty provided highlights of the week. Those attending were Dale & Jan, Dennie & Elsie, Durwood & Rheitta, Steve & Judy & Bill & Betty.

The trip to Sedalia was less than dull. Dale & Jan had a blow out on their Suburban which called for a new set of tires (expensive weekend) Dale’s NASCAR-like driving skills kept them between the ditches. We are so glad you did not wreck. I would like to say this was the only stroke of bad luck, but that’s not the case.  I don’t know who’s responsible, but one of them pulled the handle off their fridge.  Dale used high tech tools - duct tape & super glue. Just like new. This must have been the weekend for bad luck; Denny & Elsie’s TV  played-out and they had to make an emergency run to Wal-Mart for a replacement.

Weather was perfect until the night of the Sprint car races and Betty said it was so hot they could not have made it had she not brought Shawnee College fans for everyone. Adding to their discomfort the concession stand ran out of bottled water!

On another day they took a ride over to the Ozarks and, according to Elsie, it was quite a RIDE! Dale was trying to make a left hand turn when Durwood told him he should be making a right hand turn. Dale said, “watch this” and crossed 4 lanes of traffic!

Heard a few comments about the entertainment, maybe next year will be better.  They mentioned something about a husband & wife team. The lady whistled tunes and her husband did dancing puppets. Elsie says Bill can do a good imitation of the “whistling lady”. Maybe he can entertain at our next campout? As the week went on the entertainment got some better as they had Rag Time and the best night was the last night when a youth group, “The America Kids” performed.

Friday morning, June 24th, the group left Sedalia to join Frieda & Liale at Carlock for the Illinois State Rally.  When all arrived & cranked up their air conditioners the whole campground was thrown back onto the dark ages as we lost all power with 90 degree heat bearing down on us-!. We can say we had a “hot time” in Carlock. By late evening we had power. (On Sunday to show “good will” for our inconvenience the owner provided a catered breakfast of bacon and eggs.)

After we got our electricity back things got much better and we began to have fun. Saturday morning we played Rung-O. . .new game for most of us. Bill & Betty won the championship. Since we had so much fun Liale has agreed to build one and bring to our September campout. Saturday night our hosts had a catered supper of Fried Chicken, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, and Baked Beans and for desert homemade Vanilla & Cinnamon ice cream.  For entertainment our hosts put on a “fashion” show. The men looked very fashionable dressed as women.   To end the evening and make sure we were completely stuffed we had Blackpot Popcorn.

Sunday morning we had an early breakfast, said our goodbye’s and headed home.  We were hoping the “curse” had left Dale & Jan, but it was not meant to be. As we were all traveling down I-57 Wright’s trailer had a flat tire!
