4 Rivers Jayco -  July 2005 Newsletter

Wow!! What a wonderful time we had in St. Louis.  Several arrived on July 1st and enjoyed the St. Louis Fair & great fireworks on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.  The fireworks in St. Louis were billed as the best in the nation.

The rest of us trickled in during the week.  There are lots of things to do in the St. Louis area, and I think that between the groups, we did most of it.  The Arch, Grant’s Farm, The City Museum, Zoo, Science Center, Cahokia Mounds, Lewis & Clark Center & of course the Casino.  George Taylor had heard about a drawing that had been done on the old city jail wall years ago by a transient.  When the new jail was built, they removed the drawing & placed it in the Police Academy.  Several of us went to view that.  It is a drawing of Jesus on the cross.  Very interesting!

Thursday evening we all headed over to the tent and enjoyed a beautiful campfire built by Betty & Bill.  Hopefully someone took a picture of it!

By Friday afternoon everyone had arrived.  We all enjoyed a very delicious salad meal!!! There was so much to choose from, but we managed!   We had our 50/50 drawing, which was won by Randy Knight.  After dinner the Rivoli’s provided the entertainment.  You missed a very delightful evening if you didn’t get to attend the Rally!!   The Rivoli’s have some great songs that she has written.  Several people bought CD’s, ask to borrow one to hear what you missed.  After the entertainment we all set around and visited with each other & our guests.

On Saturday morning we all headed to the breakfast buffet!  If you have never been to the Casino & had the breakfast buffet, you are missing a real treat.  Once we were all stuffed, we headed back to the campground & gave away the door prizes, passed out the Metro tickets & headed out to enjoy the day finding Adventure in St. Louis.  Most of us arrived back at the campground late afternoon, early evening, exhausted from our day of adventure, (some of us had quite the adventure).  After a delightful fashion show, (done by Flight 5 & 9) we all enjoyed deserts & BINGO!!!  We had a great time & thanks to Dale, we didn’t have to strain to hear Elsie calling the numbers.  Rob & Debra Heisel brought some delicious watermelon.

On Sunday morning we once again headed back to the buffet & stuffed ourselves again!  Then we enjoyed a Sunday morning service by the Rivoli’s.

Then came the real adventure for the Sherman’s.  Frank & Pat had a flat tire on the trailer around the Nashville, IL exit.  While Frank & Randy waited for the tow truck to change the flat, Pat & I waited in the McDonald’s.  After lunch we were on our way again.  But just past Mt. Vernon, Frank had another flat on his trailer.  After sitting on the side of the road for about an hour we were on our way again.  Now Frank is pulling his trailer with his spare & the Knight’s spare, but the fun isn’t over.  Just past Benton, IL Frank gets a 3rd flat on his trailer.  We finally found a tire that could be mounted onto his rim at the Wal-Mart.  So Frank & Randy took off to get it changed & left Pat & I to stay with the truck & trailer on the side of the road.  I can tell you that is not much fun.  People do not get over & they drive way to fast for safety.  So please when you see someone on the side of the Interstate, either slow down & get over or if traffic won’t let you over, at least slow down.  (A few weeks ago, a young lady (whom we know) lost 2 of her children to an accident on the Interstate, she had stopped to attend to the baby & an 18 wheeler hit their car.)  We arrived to The Knight's 7 hours after we left St. Louis.  What an adventure!!  I hope everyone else got home safely.

We missed those of you who couldn’t be with us & hope to see you next campout.  The Balloon Festival!!!
