This month found us ‘invading’ Hoosier country or more precisely, Harmonie State Park located just south of New Harmony, Indiana.  Those attending were Kaye Fraisher & Joe Fulton, Steve & Judy Dawson & Danielle; Durwood & Rheitta Eleam, Randy & Vicki Knight, Charlie & Marla McElroy, Wes & Ellie McRae, Bob & Wanda Ray, Tim, Katie, Michael and Jennifer Armstrong; Liale & Frieda Sellers, George & Mary Taylor & Grandson, Dale & Jan Wright & Chelsea; Char & Jim Cool; Jim & Mitzi Borum; Dennie & Elsie Hinkle; Bill & Betty Ryan; and Frank & Pat Sherman.  Friends of Flight 9: Don & Dot Eizenga and Tommy, Heidi, Samuel, Sabrina & Sadie Hinkle.

Either we had an unusually large attendance or everyone brought and hung their name signs ‘cause Dale had to install leg extensions to our banner frame in order to hang all the names.

Friday’s campfire discussion centered on the Harmonie SP entrance fee and the fact that even though we were all from ‘out-of-state’ we paid different amounts. It is rumored that Bill Ryan replied to the park gate attendant something to the effect; “Even though we have paid reservations at the campground we have to pay you to get to them?”  Surely Bill would not say such a thing… would he Betty?  Pres Steve announced that there would be a 9:00 am monthly meeting in the morning… *** grumbles from the crowd ***

We were all happy to see that the Shermans were there and Frank was up-beat and well, just being Frank.  (even though we didn’t hear of him tearing anything up this campout). Some went out to eat in town but couldn’t get into the Red Geranium.  They said they were full but it could be that they were warned in advance that we were here… not sure.

The recommendations of the 2007 Rally Location & Date Committee reported during the Saturday AM meeting were:  1) We hold the rally at the Union County Fairgrounds, Sturgis, KY using the indoor arena and conference room.  2) That we hold the rally July 6 thru 8, 2007.  The main ‘draw’ being the uniqueness of holding all activities in the air conditioned arena away from the heat, humidity, rain, wind, bugs, etc and that it is relatively cheap to reserve.

Charlie McElroy gave an excellent rally location presentation with handouts and Steve went through the financial analysis; the recommendations were motioned, 2nd ed’ and passed with a majority vote.  It was also motioned and passed that the location/date committee be retained to move forward to the planning of entertainment, etc (with powers of delegation and appointments).  Pat & Vicki volunteered to take care of planning the children’s activities.

Saturday saw most doing whatever they wanted… some browsing the shops of New Harmony, touring the state park, playing Rungo and some just relaxing.  We had an uninvited guest in the form of a thunderstorm that arrived just in time to alter our supper potluck plans.  A shelter search party was organized, dispatched and we ultimately relocated our great expanse of food along with our appetites.  As usual we had so much food that we really needed more people.  Oh, we also had at least 3 freezers of homemade ice cream (as if we needed that!)

Since Dale kept our firewood dry during the downpour we did have a Saturday nite campfire gathering, which included some chair cushion drying, and Borum’s wedding planning tales.  Hang in there Jim!  A nice Church service was held on Sunday morning with Jim Borum sermonizing and George Taylor leading the singing.  Both did a very good job.

A ‘left-overs’ lunch potluck was informally held even though we had a few small rain sprinkles so we got to sample some of the food we might have missed at the Saturday supper.  By early afternoon most had pulled out.  The McElroy’s and the Sellers played cards and watched the NASCAR race (well Liale paid attention to the race).  Frieda won the card game (Phase 10).

At the Canal campout there will be a Saturday ‘eat-out’ and Tim will find us a place so keep checking the web site for more details on that and for the photos from the Harmonie campout.
