First, the club would like to send our deepest sympathy to Elsie and family in the loss of her sister. Elsie, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. To our friend Don we were happy you and Dot could join us for supper at the Pelican and we hope you continue a speedy recovery and get to camp with us real soon.
We had 17 rigs and several visitors for our Canal campout. Those attending were: Kaye Fraisher & Joe Fulton, Jim & Jared Borum, (Mitzi came for supper and campfire), Jim & Char Cool, Steve & Judy Dawson, Durwood & Rheitta Eleam, Robert & Deborah Heisel, Stephanie & her fiancée Nick, Dennie & Elsie Hinkle, Randy & Vicki Knight and guest, Lonnie & Joy Knight, Andy, Sarah & Kelly, & Karrie Sanders & Nate;Charlie & Marla McElroy, Wes & Ellie McRae, Dave & Martha Sue Peters (supper and campfire), Bob & Wanda Ray, Charles & Ellen Rice, Bill & Betty Ryan and grandchildren, Blake, Austin & Collin, Liale & Frieda Sellers, George & Mary Taylor, Dale & Jan Wright. Friends of Flight 9 - Don & Dot Eizenga (supper and campfire); Tommy & Heidi Hinkle and Savana, Sam, Sabrina & Sadie.
Friday afternoon & early evening brought thunderstorms. While George was parking the Heisel’s rig (Rob had only enough time to drop the rig and head to work) the second wave of storms decided to challenge George’s ability to back the rig in the dark and torrential rain. The Heisel’s were very grateful for his help! Not sure what everyone did on Friday night considering the weather didn’t allow for outside campfire. The Wright’s, Sellers’ and McElroy’s went in to the big city of Grand Rivers and took in the new variety show. Saturday was a breezy sunshiny day! Kids & adults were riding bikes and some played dominoes all afternoon without having a big fight over whose rules were correct. Bill & Betty Ryan looked a little worn out from keeping up with their (3) grandchildren. Bill even threatened to put a muzzle on one of the boys for biting his cousin! Not speaking for everyone, but I hope all enjoyed their meal at the Pelican as much as I did. My fish was delicious! After our dinner we all went back to the Ray’s campfire and visited until late in the evening.. We were especially glad the Peters took the time to cruise in on their Harley disguised as a Gold Wing and visit with us. Sunday was another pretty day for more talking and sharing family stories of raising teenage children. While the women talked about teenage children the men talked NASCAR. Before we knew it was time to pack-up and head back to the real world.
Jim & Donna Young have invited everyone for their annual Bar-B-Q September 29th-31st at Ft. Massac State Park. After our September 8th-10th campout, please let Dale know if you planned to attend so he can give Jim a headcount.
The Sherman’s have sold their travel trailer and have purchased an 01’ or 02’ Jayco 30’ 5th wheel. Get well soon Frank, so you’all can join us.
Please keep John Haley in your prayers as he is having back surgery July 27th. John & Cynthia we miss you!
