Finally, the weather gave us a break and we had warm days & cool nights for our Giant City State park campout. Besides the good weather we also had an over abundance of chiggers. Ellie emailed that she had (500) chigger bites; I think she got most of those from the 12 mile hike. Wes & Rheitta also got their share! Once again we had a good turn-out with 18 rigs; those attending were: Ira Kaye Frashier & Joe Fulton, Jim & Char Cool, Steve & Judy Dawson & Danielle, Durwood & Rheitta Eleam, John & Cynthia Haley, Dennie & Elsie Hinkle, Randy & Vicki Knight, Wes & Ellie McRae, Steve, Lynn, Tabatha, Eli, & Jeremiah O’Saile , Dave & Martha Sue Peters, Bill & Betty Ryan came for a short visit, Liale & Frieda Sellers, Frank & Pat Sherman, George & Mary Taylor, Dale & Jan Wright & Michelle Daniel & Chelsea, and a special welcome to our new members Ben & Jean Hinkle. Friends of Flight 9: Don & Dot Eizenga, Bob & Mary Lauderdale, Harvey Smith & Maureen.
Some of those that don’t have to work had the luxury of arriving on Thursday, but for us “working class” we straggled in on Friday. After setting up, several made a dash to eat at the lodge. In the evening, the Ray’s had a roarin’ campfire for us to enjoy and catch-up on visiting.
Saturday found a few families cooking breakfast outside and that sizzling bacon sure did smell good! During the day some hiked, played games and some played “body shop” at the Lingle’s repairing their twisted electric steps. I heard there were too many chiefs and not enough Indians, but they had fun and saved the Lingle’s from having to buy new steps. Supper was at the Giant City lodge and then back to the campground for our business meeting and visiting. After the business meeting Dave Peters presented John Haley with a nice tool box with “tools”. Dave said, some time ago the guys had decided when they have surgery they would like tools instead of flowers. The tool box was very sturdy, but the “tools” may not hold-up in the wash! Sunday was another beautiful day. Several played Rungo; Chelsea has a good arm on her; several times the “ropes” landed in the trees. Chelsea your doing good, just work a little on your aim. Wes & Cynthia kept us laughing while they played too. By 4:00 p.m. we all headed home.
