Thirteen rigs, two “friends of flight 9” and a whole bunch of monarch butterflies gathered at Henderson,Ky. for our September campout. My husband and I arrived Saturday morning and as soon as I got out of the truck, Cynthia Haley and Chelsea, the Wright’s grand-daughter, were on their way to tag the migrating monarchs. Well, how many times in your life do you get to get in on something like that? So off we went! There was a caravan of vehicles with their blinkers on going down the highway. People stopped along the side of the road for us to pass. I think they thought we were in a funeral procession. When we arrived, we were given nets and instructions on how to net the butterflies safely. The weeds we went through were taller than I was but little Chelsea just plowed right thru. She caught a butterfly but it wasn’t a monarch. She remained enthusiastic and bounced all over that field. Cynthia and I were not quite so bouncy but we did learn some interesting facts about these beautiful little creatures.
Wes McRae made the club an RV softball game and from what I hear they had a pretty wild time out there. Joe even made a home run while talking on the phone. WOW!! The men beat the women 12-1. I think the women will get a re-match and beat their socks off. Women we’ve thrown down the glove, so let’s show the men what we can do!
The group also went on a tour of the restored LST in Evansville. The guide said the letters stand for Long Slow Target. Everyone really enjoyed this tour. We have had some interesting, fun and very memorable campouts and hope to enjoy many more.
HAPPY CAMPING TO ALL!!
The 50/50 was won [again] by Wes McRae. He won 27.00. He needed it because he took all of his kids out to eat.
The door prize was donated by the Haley’s and won by the Armstrong’s.
The next campout will be at Hillman’s Ferry in Kentucky Oct.19-21.
